The Photography and Digital Imaging Program offers professional training to students who wish to enter the photographic field as
photographers-assistant photographers.

We offer a practical hands-on approach to learning; training is enhanced through workshops, demonstrations by working photographers and opportunities for on-the-job training. Many students undertake assignments from (real world) clients to further develop their professional skills and provide material for their portfolios. The course places a strong emphasis on the business of photography, aspects of which include: employment options, marketing - self promotion and market research, technical and creative standards, digital photography and the professional portfolio. Second year students in particular develop their self-motivational abilities and are encouraged to pursue an individualistic portfolio based on their photographic specialty.

The program functions much like a large studio. In order to simulate a realistic environment many duties and responsibilities are managed by the students. These include: basic chemistry (color/B&W), minor equipment and camera maintenance, and (specialty) facilities upkeep. We offer a range of facilities such as 1,100 square foot studio, a 16 workstation Mac lab, darkrooms along with equipment such as 35mm through 4X5 film cameras, SLR style digital cameras, etc.

Students come from many Canadian Provinces and often international locations. Average age is about 23 with a generally even mix of male and female from varying backgrounds, work/life experience but with photography as a common passion. Average number of first and second year students in total is 25.
